This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Warming House, a place of comfort and safety for our community's teens. A place where teens can make connections, be accepted and be themselves. Teens have described the Center as their “favorite place”, a “second home”, and at times, a “lifeline”.

Like many non-profit organizations, the Warming House is actively working to adapt to the changes within our community as the result of the pandemic.

We know that our services and our space are too important to our teens to give in to uncertainty and are committed to caring for and supporting them through these challenging times.

“Connectedness is an important protective factor for youth that can reduce the likelihood of a variety of health risk behaviors. Youth who feel connected at school and home are less likely to experience negative health outcomes related to sexual risk, substance use, violence, and mental health.” - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Over the past year and a half, a robust set of virtual programs, including consistent mental health check-ins, have helped teens continue to find a place of grounding in a time of fear and unease. Now as things have started to open back up, we’re proud to see our in-person programs and participation grow once again, offering a place of belonging, comfort and acceptance without judgment.

Teens need a sense of belonging for their stability and emotional well-being.

For teens, whose lives revolve around peer interaction, a lack of connection can be especially damaging. Now more than ever, we need to foster engagement and belonging for our community’s teens, at a time when school, sports, clubs and other activities are so limited.
