Teens need a sense of belonging for their stability and emotional well-being.

More and more we are all being asked to stay socially distant, for our safety and the safety of our community. It’s frustrating and isolating, and everyone one of us is missing that sense of connection.

For teens, whose lives revolve around peer interaction, this lack of connection can be especially damaging.

“Connectedness is an important protective factor for youth that can reduce the likelihood of a variety of health risk behaviors. Youth who feel connected at school and home are less likely to experience negative health outcomes related to sexual risk, substance use, violence, and mental health.”

- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Now more than ever, we need to foster engagement and belonging for our community’s teens, at a time when school, sports, clubs and other activities are so limited.

Despite the challenges, Warming House is continuing to offer a place for teens to connect with each other.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Warming House has continued to lead the way in finding creative and engaging opportunities for teens to connect with their peers by offering:

  • In-person, socially distanced programming: outdoor games, creative arts/free expression, s'mores night.

  • One-on-one and group staff intervention support services in person (when able) or virtually.

  • A virtual space to participate in favorite Warming House programs like bake night and game night.

We have continued to provide teens a point of connection and an outlet to talk about what’s going on in their own personal worlds and in the larger world around them.

Ever resilient, our teens have thrived when given the chance to interact with peers and staff in a relaxed and unstructured setting.
